According to the Proposed Barangay Development Plan of Barangay Tuboran (2007), in the early times, the barangay was once named “Bayogan” by a native Subanen in reference to the abundant “bayog” and bamboo plants.

Years had passed, and its name was changed to “Tuboran”.  Folk stories tell of a Subanen teacher named R. Tolero who replaced the name after finding out that bayog and bamboo plants were no longer abundant. Its new name was then adapted from the numerous springs found in the area.
